The concept of this Electrolux will be appealing to anybody who has ever had their Roomba get stuck. The 3D Vision system is the perfect solution to that problem; but, unfortunately the vacuum just doesn’t hold up against the Roomba in other areas.

Before going into the problems, let me say that this Pure I9 robot vacuum does a great job at avoiding obstacles. Over the last month it hasn’t gotten stuck a single time.

In addition to being good at avoiding obstacles:

1) The cord management system is far better than Roomba – which makes the Pure I9 look better when it’s parked.

2) The Pure I9 is better at reaching into corners due to its triangular shape.

3) Emptying the bin is simpler on the Electrolux vs the Roomba.

Unfortunately, as you can probably tell by the 3-star rating, there are several issues:

1) We have 2 cats and a dog; so I was surprised to find only a small amount of dirt in the collection bin after the first pass through our play room. As a comparison, I ran the Roomba over the exact same area immediately after the Electrolux had finished – and the Roomba’s bin was mostly full. Over the course of the last month, I’ve done this same test multiple times in different rooms and it’s clear the Roomba picks up more dirt on carpet.

2) The Electrolux is significantly louder than the Roomba. The first time I ran it I was thinking ‘Wow, this thing is going to do awesome!’ based on the noise alone; but, as I mentioned above, the performance doesn’t keep up with the noise level.

3) The Roomba tends to clean a room in lines – leaving those nice vacuum lines in the carpet; but, the Electrolux tends to leave tons of little circles side by side, so the carpet never really looks like it’s been vacuumed.

4) Although the Roomba does have a tendency to get stuck if items are left out on the floor – it also does well at cleaning under furniture. The Electrolux doesn’t even try – and just runs along side of our couch that’s a few inches off the floor (I believe it’s because it ‘sees’ the couch as an obstacle).

5) The Roomba can go almost twice as many square feet on a single charge.

6) This may be specific to my house; but, the Electrolux just won’t leave our play room – no matter what I’ve tried. It bounces around in the doorway and goes right back in. As a result, I can’t park it in the play room if I want the whole upstairs to get cleaned. This is an odd problem since there are no obstacles or changes in flooring.

After giving up on running the Electrolux Pure I9 on our upstairs carpet, I moved it to the vault at our business (which is has a sealed concrete floor). Let me say that it’s done spectacularly on that floor vs carpet!

Overall, I wouldn’t recommend the Electrolux when compared to the Roomba. It doesn’t ever get stuck; but, it doesn’t clean as well either – especially on carpet. [external_footer]
