The included abrasive wheels alone where worth it. At three buck a piece thats a good savings…

Just finished wire wheeling the paint off an Iron Fence 4 foot high by 10 feet 1 inch square tubing. I pounded the heck out of the grinder for a little over 2 hours…. It did not even get hot, maybe warm if anything, i was applying good presure to remove the paint down to bare metal.

I have another 4.5″ 7amp Makita I paid $89 a few years back. There is no difference in performance between them.

CONS:

I did not like the On/Off switch. it’s a pain in the rear to turn on and off, even worst if you have your work gloves on.. The switch location also is kind a weird and hard to reach with my thumb. For that reason alone I scored only 4 stars.

These tools are great to grind or put a diamond blade on to cut or shape metal tile plastic aluminum etc. This will cut bolts/locks/clamps and cut a groove in a screw with a striped head to take out with a standard screw driver.

I wondered if this tool would be adequate for the job. It has all the power needed to use wire cup brushes to remove old caulking from the roof of my RV. I ran it for hours with only short pauses for me to rest, and it got warm, but not hot. This is a great tool. Have not used one of the grinding wheels yet. Sometimes I don’t get the on/off switch to turn ON the first try, however it always is easy to turn OFF. I can see the advantage of a paddle switch for instant off without having to move finger to the switch, but those units cost much more. Hitachi does not recommend using wire brushes with their angle grinder, but it works great. Really, what else is there that will do the job? I used Weiler stainless steel brushes, full face protection, protective clothing, and am aware of face position relative to the grinder. I would buy this again.

If you’re thinking of buying a high end grinder like Makita or dewalt, don’t! I’m a welder/fabricator and this baby is all you’ll need for a disc grinder. Great product!

I had a stone step that had broken and became a liability issue. I didn’t need a very expensive tool because I don’t know if and when I will be using this again. I read all the reviews on this and I and others, and decided to give this a try. There is absolutely no issue with the on off button. If you learn how to use it you won’t have any trouble at all.

I bought a Dewalt diamond blade for it And between the two of them that step was cut in a matter of minutes. It was like a knife through hot butter and quite surprised me since I’ve never done this kind of thing before. Now that I have it, I’m sure it will come in handy for other things. The only reason I didn’t give it five stars because I don’t have enough experience with it.

Wow. This angle grinder works great. I used it for the first time the other day with a Skil grinding disc to clean up some rusty metal for welding. It just plain and simple worked great. TBH I dont really know for sure if it was the angle grinder or Skil grinding disc that made such any easy experience or perhaps the combination of the two. But whatever the case it did a great job I was very impressed. I also own a Skil angle grinder as well have only used harbor freight grinding discs and cut off wheels with it. It came with a Skil grinding disc but had never used it.

In short this angle grinder does a great job. It come with a hard shell carrying case as well which includes room for its handle wrench thing and molded to hold and protect several discs as well. I filled mine with three cut off discs, three flap discs, and two grinding discs one left on the grinder.

The only complaint so far is that the plastic case is very thin plastic… say in comparison to my ryobi case (for those tools) it is MUCH thicker and robust… but again tbh the case that came with the Hitachi angle grinder should hold up (if treated decently) and definitely does the job of organizing and protecting the angle grinder, handle, wrench thing (both of which I never use) and discs.

Good stuff. Highly recommended.

for the price it is a great little grinder.

upgraded review to 5 stars and i have ordered another one… seems the name has been changed to metabo HST .

I have used this up to about two hours at a time stopping only to put on new cut off discs and flap discs…

The face that it has not overheated or simply given up is amazing when you consider the price.

I don’t put a lot of pressure on the machine while using it and if you really lean into it it will slow down after all it is just a 6 amp grinder… But it can certainly grind through 1/4 inch plate which is about as thick as most of us DIY types deal with…

I paired one of these grinders with a northern tools grinder stand (16 bucks) and got myself a handy dandy cut off saw for small stuff like rebar and small tubing….

I also use grinder to cut long straight strips off steel plate … just using a bit of angle iron as a straight edge until i have nice groove to follow…

useful tool, the case is too small… i picked up a soft tool bag big enough for a couple of grinders and another bag for the discs…

A quality product that is affordable for casual and medium users. I have never used an angle grinder before. After some initial confusion primary due to the senseless User’s Manual I got the hang of it quickly.

I bought this grinder to remove a flange on the tailgate of an old Ford F-150 I am restoring. I planned on having the auto shop do it for me. However, when they quoted me a $125 price I decided upon this $45.00 grinder. I also bought the recommended DeWalt cutting discs.

Now that the tailgate project is complete I’m looking for additional projects. “Look out house, here I come!”
